Exploring Winsford 1-5 BID: A Glimpse into Industrial Estate Management

On the 17th of April 2024, our team had the privilege of visiting Winsford 1-5 BID, the first industrial estate in the UK to establish a Business Improvement District (BID). The visit provided a valuable opportunity to connect with BID managers and administrators from across the country, including our gracious hosts from Chester.

The day was filled with insightful presentations, discussions, and a tour of the estate, offering a glimpse into the challenges and successes of industrial estate management. From sharing best practices to addressing common environmental challenges like parking and littering, the experience was enriching and informative.

We had the pleasure of hearing from Greville Kelly, the Director of Business Winsford BID, who provided a brief history and background of Winsford. Greville is at the forefront of working with Industrial BIDs on decarbonization and the carbon zero agenda. His innovative approach to sustainability and access to Government green grants has made Winsford 1-5 BID a leader in environmental initiatives.

Additionally, Lee from One Tek Business Solutions showcased advancements in CCTV and ANPR technology, highlighting the importance of security measures in industrial estates.

Winsford 1-5 BID has made remarkable progress over the years, with significant investments in aesthetics, security provision, and business support. With nearly 5000 people employed in various professions, ranging from food manufacturing to engineering, the estate stands as a testament to the success of collaborative efforts within the BID framework.

Our visit sparked exciting ideas for collaboration and improvement, which we are eager to implement within our own community here at Penrith Business Parks. Amanda, manager for the Penrith Industrial BID is meeting with Greville on 23rd May to find out more about how he has achieved decarbonisation and carbon zero goals, and how we can apply these learnings to our own BID. Together, we are exploring ways to make our area greener and cleaner, paving the way for a sustainable future.

We extend our gratitude to Winsford 1-5 BID for hosting us and look forward to continued collaboration and learning.
