Cumbria to be Showcased at New Great North Investment Summit

Cumbria will take part in the first-ever Great North Investment Summit, a major new event designed to promote investment opportunities across the North of England on a global stage.

The summit will take place on Monday 18 May 2026, ahead of the UK’s Real Estate Investment and Infrastructure Forum (UKREiiF), and will bring together investors, government bodies and regional leaders. Its purpose is to help unlock new investment and job creation across the North, with estimates suggesting the region could contribute up to £118bn to the UK economy with the right level of investment.

For Cumbria, this event is an opportunity to showcase the county’s strengths alongside other northern regions, raising its profile with national and international investors. Local leaders have highlighted the importance of being visible at high-profile events like this to promote Cumbria’s economic potential, skills base, infrastructure and quality of life.

The summit will focus on “pipeline-ready” investment opportunities, particularly in key growth sectors, and aims to strengthen relationships with major investors, including institutional and international partners. It will also promote the North as an attractive place for businesses and talent to locate, highlighting creativity, culture and lifestyle as part of the investment offer.

This development comes as Cumbria moves towards greater local control over economic development. A new Cumbria Combined Authority is expected to be established in early 2026, providing a strategic, county-wide approach to growth and investment.

For Penrith Business Parks levy payers, increased visibility for Cumbria on the national and global investment stage has the potential to support long-term economic growth, attract new businesses, and strengthen the region’s position as a place to invest, work and do business. Further details about the summit will be announced in due course.
