A66 Northern Trans-Pennine Project – June 2026 Lane and Road Closures

Businesses across Penrith are being advised of a series of upcoming lane restrictions and overnight road closures on the A66 as part of the ongoing A66 Northern Trans-Pennine (NTP) Project.

National Highways will be carrying out essential advanced works throughout June, including the installation of CCTV cameras and improvements to the central reservation between M6 Junction 40 and Temple Sowerby. These works are being undertaken ahead of the main construction phase of the project.

What works are taking place?

The installation of CCTV cameras will enable National Highways to monitor the route and provide a free 24-hour vehicle recovery service during the construction period. To facilitate these works, a number of overnight full closures will be required.

In addition, work to strengthen the central reservation between M6 Junction 40 and Kemplay Bank Roundabout will allow two lanes of traffic to be maintained in each direction during the future construction programme.
